Top prospect Walker Jenkins, promoted Friday by the Twins, has already supplied an extra-base hit, an RBI and a stolen base. The rookie’s speed matters against a pitching staff preparing to change batteries and arm angles throughout the afternoon.
The White Sox have wins in hand, but not fresh arms
The White Sox used an early power burst to win Friday and protected a narrow lead Saturday. Andrew Benintendi produced every White Sox hit in the second game, including the decisive home run, and has driven in runs on both days.
Jordan Hicks is listed opposite Matthews, but only for a short opening assignment rather than conventional starter length. The complete chain behind him remained unsettled in the latest Chicago Sun-Times reporting, with the staff described as a day-to-day operation.
The mileage ledger is not tidy. Bryan Hudson closed both games, Sean Newcomb handled a long bridge Saturday, and Grant Taylor produced his longest outing of the season Friday.
Using Hicks at the front also removes a power arm from his usual relief slot. The White Sox have managed fluid roles well, but one short bulk appearance would force the coaching staff to reach deeper than planned.
Storm clouds complicate an already delicate pitching script
First pitch at Target Field is scheduled for 2:10 PM ET, with showers or thunderstorms creating a meaningful delay risk. A light inward breeze would offer pitchers modest help, but the timing of any rain matters more than the direction of the flags.
